SOKO - “We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” (Official Video) (by noisey)
Just heard about Soko’s new album! The official video for “We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” is cute but definitely NSFW.

Romantic & Square’s 15 Best Albums of 2011
A long long time ago, I used to manage a music site called AekiTuesday.com. The site focused on local music news, reviews and views. Every year I would painstakingly work on my best of music list. I figured I should start this tradition on this lonely tumblr site. Perhaps it will give me the nudge I need to get back into the music blogging world (maybe). I am modestly starting with a top 15 list of 2011.

Ministry Of Sound founder Justin Berkmann, DJ Danny Tenaglia and others share stories about the late Larry Levan, the producer and DJ whose residency at New York’s Paradise Garage between 1977 and 1987 remains the most storied in clubland.

If Eisley and Heather Nova ever decided to write an album together and record at a small studio in Rhode Island, it very well may sound like this.

Mélanie Laurent - En t’attendant (via Atmospheriques)
The first taste of Mélanie’s new single. It’s quite catchy.
Here’s a bit from an Elle Magazine interview (via):
I hear you’re recording an album with Damien Rice. How did that come about?
It’s a crazy story. I went to Woodstock a year and a half ago to record the album, and I was unhappy with what happened there. I called my manager and asked him to call Damien Rice’s manager and organize something. I didn’t expect him to come, but he did, and we started to work together. I fired everyone and followed him to Ireland. He taught me everything about being a musician. I was a huge, huge fan, so it was weird for me to just speak with him like it’s natural, when I was like, “Oh my God, I’m speaking with Damien Rice and we’re creating music together.” But he’s my dearest friend now.
There’s no one way to define a great voice: Genius might lie in the phrasing, the range, the power, the control, the words themselves, or some sort of indescribable something else. But one way to diagnose genius for sure is to have a singer walk into a crowded room with little to no accompaniment, open his or her mouth, and command breathless attention in a matter of seconds.
